Father: Alan Morissette, a French-Canadian who used to work as a high school principal.
Mother: Georgia Morissette, born in Hungary.
Brothers: Chad (eldest), and Wade (Alanis's twin brother) Morissette. One of Alanis' unreleased songs, No Pressure Over Cappuccino, is written about Wade and it's also dedicated to him.

Origin of the name Alanis: Alanis's father wanted to give her a female version of his name, but didn't like the name Alanna. He saw the name Alanis in a Greek newspaper and it stuck.

Alanis Morissette was born on the 1st June 1974 in Ottawa, Canada.

She started taking ballet and jazz dancing classes at the age of 7. She began writing songs when she was 9.
 
Alanis starred on the kids TV show 'You Can't Do That On Television' and released her first single, 'Fate Stay With Me,' at the age of 11. She began writing songs with Leslie Howe at the age of 13.
 
She signed a contract with MCA Records at the age of 16. Her first album, 'Alanis,' was released the same year.
 
Her second album, 'Now Is The Time,' was released when she was 18.
 
Whe she was 19 she had a role in the TV movie 'Just One Of The Girls.'
 
Her third album, the legendary 'Jagged Little Pill,' was released when Alanis was 20. She won four Grammies at the 1996 Grammy Awards; Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Album of the Year!

In October 1996 Jagged Little Pill became the best selling debut album EVER!
